Today's readings include Paul's beautiful passage on love and the first episode after the disciples have come off the mountain having seen Jesus transfigured and talking with Moses and Elijah. After healing and teaching and showing the disciples for months, after this incredible spiritual revelation on the mountain, the disciples could not cast out the demon from the boy.
"If you are able to do anything, have pity on us and help us," the father says.
"If you are able," Jesus snorts. "All things can be done for the one who [trusts]."
And Jesus heals the boy.
If we are able is a good question. Many things I say I am unable to do. Most of them are some kind of living into this description of love. Do we alienate people to love our neighbor? And am I really asking that question?
Walking in trust, being asked to do all kinds of things that seem too hard, too dangerous, too weird...
That's burning bush faith (today's third text). That's living into radical love. That's healing when you don't think you can.
I need more coffee...
