Faithful Pathways: Subversive Obedience

I'm tired of the disciples, so we're going back to Exodus where we hear the beginnings of the Exodus story...the Hebrew people are slaves to Egypt. The Egyptians are afraid of them and do everything they can to weaken the Hebrews. It's a great story you should read...here.

The sneaky king decides how he can weaken the people...he tells the midwives to kill all the boys. Now there have been times I've wanted to kill a few boys in my life...but not as a general rule. The midwives agree, but they let the boys live. Then they lie to the king, telling him that the Hebrew women are so strong they give birth before the midwives get there.

God blesses the Hebrews and the midwives. The Pharaoh commanded all his people to kill the boys.

And we know how that turned out.

Who really has power in the world? Pharaoh? the midwives? baby boys?

Obedience to God may not look like much...but I'll take my chances with the power of God.
